I know this goes against everything I've done and am going to do, but I felt this was the place to talk about the new Red Dwarf.
Series 10 has just aired and it's safe to say that I'm a BIG fan. I own all the previous series in DVD and watched them on BBC 2 back in the day. Got majorly hyped for BtE a few years ago and am really hyped for X.
This is what I think of it.
Less than 10 minuets ago I was smiling happily as Red D X ep 1 finished.
But although I'm happy I'm not 100% with what I saw.
My first complaint with the new RD is that it feels as though all the characters development over the last 13 years has suddenly disappeared. The Cat is the shadow loving vain douche bag we all fell in love with/ Kryten is there for science/ Tech jokes again, Rimmer is as resentful as ever (and it's the focus of the episode) and Lister is as dumb yet full of new age wisdom as ever.
I'm sorry but references to Kochanski are liked but not loved.
I can't help but feel like this is red dwarf for a new age of fans rather than a continuation for the old,. That's great as long as you're able to take that on the chin as a fan of a TV show that's the same age as you.
It's as good as I-III Red Dwarf and I do like it!
I just hope it doesn't depend on old tricks so much as it grow on them in coming episodes.
