As a equal/gay rights activist I felt the need to talk about this.
Louis
A truly funny, learned comedy, that addresses real current social issues in an emotional grown up way. This scene makes me laugh every time I watch it, but it's not all light hearted. You see with the joy & the laughs that CK and the gang bring to the show, they also make you feel, and force you to think. This 7 minute opening scene (To Episode 2) takes jabs at being friends with people who have different social, political, religious & practical views to you. It also covers bullying, ageism, sexism and modern language. And even, to an extent, Freedom of speech.
What makes this an honest to god great show isn't so much it's jokes, as it is the brutal realism it thrusts upon us as human beings, while all the time maintaining the ability to make us cackle.
The great stand ups have always made us giggle as well as think, and that is one thing Louis CK applies to the worn out standard sitcom template with unparalleled success. The show may have aired in 2010, making me very much late to the party, but I feel the message is just as important now as it was 5 years ago.
In short, Watch this, Enjoy this, Support this. But most of all........ Learn from this.
