Batman - The Movie (1966)
- Starring: Adam West, Burt Ward, Cesar Romero
Director: Leslie Martinson
Certificate:
This is not a well made film, nor is it well written or acted. But it is, without a doubt, one of my favourite films ever!
The title of this review sums it up, its good clean, very entertaining fun, with some classic lines.
Adam West (as obscurely iconic and loved as the likes of Chuck Norris and David Hasselhoff) as the caped crime fighter, over acts elegantly at every wonderful corner. As does Burt Ward, with every palm punch, while dressed in an oh-so too slightly tight outfit.
It is of course, based on the famously camp 60's TV show, which as far as I can tell is mostly despised by the Dark detective's fans of today. Not surprising when you think about why they've been drawn to the Bat in the first place, DARK, VIOLENT yet full of JUSTICE. And the only one of those things you'll find in this film is JUSTICE. Even that has been toned down to teach kids how be a good member of the community. You can't help but feel a little like your being taught the green cross code again, however, if you put that mild annoyance aside, you'll find the charm of the film well out ways it.
Ask a Batman fan what s/he thinks about a new Book/Film/Game/TV show and s/he'll start talking about the Villains, what ones they'd like to see in it. And the film does not disappoint on this aspect, it has not one nor two but four, yes four Bat Baddies. The Joker, Penguin, The Riddler and Catwoman, all team up to take on the Bat and Boy Wonder. Now this is a line up of some of the greatest villains of all time. Cesar Romero's Joker, while, in my opinion, not quite as great as Heath ledger's act still does it great. And in the next few reviews I plan to talk a lot about this wonderful bad guy. But for now let’s just say the villains kick butt.
I could easily go on and on about this film as I could with all the batman films, but I have to keep to a limit. So I'll cut it up.
THIS IS GREAT! However you have to go in to it bearing in mind that it’s;
A. Old
B. Focused at Kids
And
C. Not meant to be taken seriously.
Also I have to mention before I log off that, how Batman and Robin ever manage to figure out any of the riddles in the film..... or the T.V. Show for that matter is beyond me
As said before;
"Some Days you just can’t Get Rid of a Bomb"
And some days you don't want to.
SEE IT!!!
5/5
