Once (2007) [Recommended]

Not Quite a Musical.

Starring:
Alaistair Foley, Catherine Hansard, Glen Hansard
Director: John Carney
Certificate: Certificate: 15

When I think of musicals I tend to use the words, 'Cheesy' and 'in your face loud'. However this film is beautifully emotional, extremely powerful and so gently subtle, that it shouldn't be called a musical.

It's a story about two people who happen to meet; they form a friendship base on their love of music, and write music together when they fall in love.

It is by far one of the most heartfelt pieces of cinema in a long time which is helped immensely by the two lead roles, Glen Hansard & Markéta Irglová, who do wonderful jobs, both singing and acting.
The creative use of the camera, soft editing and emotional song writing all add too to, what is an already an amazing watch.

Please, do yourself a favour and watch this film it deserves so much more that it received as it was made by people who not only care about making a great film but also great music.

5/5
